Heartland Food Bank
The need for a food bank in Americas Heartland became increasingly apparent as a growing number of people struggled to procure sufficient food to feed themselves and their families. Recognizing this need, Teresa Lowry, Gene Harjo, Bob Thompson and Rev. Clint Smith collaborated to form the Heartland Food Bank in 2011 in a 3,800 square-foot warehouse. The following year the Food Bank distributed 27,800 pounds of food to 16 nonprofit agencies.
